Fred Bailey was a licensed mortician prior to entering the Army in 1941 at the age of 27 years. Capt. Fred Bailey never dreamed of what he would see and experience during WWII this why he would always tell the boys “the war was too terrible to remember”, from time to time he would mention a thing or so about his time in the US Army from 1941-1953.

When John’s father Fred Bailey passed away in 2005 his brother Jim found his US Army 201 file with his travels during WWII and the issuance of the Bronze Star Medal to Capt. Fred J. Bailey. John and his brother started discussions of trip to visit the many places their father had been to in WWI after landing in Normandy via ship in early August 1944.

In today’s presentation John will talk about his Father Fred, his mother Melna who was a Lieutenant in the US army and his Uncle Jacque a Lieutenant in the US Army. All 3 served their country in Europe.

John will show us his father’s journey through Europe from landing in Normandy, to giving the order to begin construction of the American Cemetery in Margraten Holland and the burial of General Patton. Johns father attended the Nuremberg trials as a witness and John will explain his duties after the trial was over. Fred’s son John a 2nd generation family member of Bailey Family of Companies the original business Bailey Travel was founded by Fred’s brother Glenn with his 1st trip to the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago via train from York PA, after Fred returned from serving his country in Europe after WWII Fred joined his brother in York and opened their new venture Bailey Travel Service in 1949.

John has worked in the family business expanding it to include Bailey Coach a passenger transportation company, Baileys Zero Hazard a disinfecting company, founded during the Covid pandemic, Bailey Automotive Services and Bailey Self Storage.
