Rotary Club of West Shore Spokesman
District 7390 - Club 5368
Meeting most first and third Thursdays of the month from 8:00 - 9:00 am
at Perkins Restaurant (7 Erford Road; Lemoyne, PA)
Happy new year, Rotarians!
Admittedly, it is somewhat of a bittersweet start. It saddens me the our club has lost three amazing Rotarians in less than two years. At the same time, I'm grateful for those who have joined and/or stayed with our club. We continue to remain small but mighty.

PLEASE take a moment and read the info below as there are opportunities for you individually and collectively as a club.

I look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday!

Hope Across Horizons
The mission of Hope Across Horizons is to improve the quality of life for those most in need by supporting education, healthcare, and self-sustainability in Panguma, Sierra Leone.

Fred Clark is a board member of Hope Across Horizons and will be sharing the critical needs of the Panguma Hospital
project.

Fred was born and raised in Mechanicsburg and has been involved in the local community his entire life. In addition to working for IBM for 24 years, owning his own landscaping company for 20 years, and serving as the director of missions and outreach at Camp Hill United Methodist Church, he's been involved with many outreach projects though the Salvation Army and the St. Francis Food Pantry.
Honoring Graeme Goodsir
Longtime club member, Graeme Goodsir, passed away at his home on December 28. Prior to his passing, he wrote a check for a $100 donation to Rotary. This act of generosity humbles me.

As a way of honoring Graeme, please consider making a donation to the Rotary Foundation in the month of January. The "Every Rotarian Every Year" suggested donation is $100. If this is not feasible, the suggested minimum donation is only $25.

Graeme's widow, Esmè, does not need flowers, plants, or meals delivered to her home. A more meaningful gift is being able to share with her that our club had 100% giving in honor of Graeme to something near and dear to his heart.

We would like to present some sort of proclamation and/or certificate to Esmè in the near future which is why you are asked to donate in January.

You may make your donation to the Annual Fund online by clicking here.
Service Activity Opportunities - MLK Day of Service on January 16
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is fast approaching and there are a number of activities available for our club to choose from for a service activity.

If you are interested in joining this annual initiative, you can check out the activities by clicking here. (Note that some of the projects may say "CLOSED" when you try to register.)

I think it would be awesome for our club to participate as a group, whether small or large. If this is of interest to you, please email me with your top 2-3 activity choices.

If you elect to participate as an individual, consider wearing your Rotary garb and snapping a picture for us to post on our social media platforms. Please don't hesitate to speak up if you need Rotary garb.

Service above self!

Flags for Heroes 2023
Though FFH 2023 is many months away, the planning process starts early.

If you would like to join the FFH committee, please email me by Sunday, January 8. We will be scheduling a meeting in the near future and want to make sure that we include all who are interested in serving. Thank you!
Reminder: 2023-24 Grant Project
Our grant project (care kits for the domestic violence center) is complete! We are now looking for ideas for a grant project for next year. If you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know so we can compile the ideas and vote as a club. The grant intent form is due by mid-March. Hopefully, we can vote on a project in January; February will be used to collect information for the grant form. Share your ideas at the January 5 or 19 meetings or email them to me. Thank you to those who already forwarded suggestions.

Reminder: Disbursing Flags for Heroes and Foundation Funds
The club has about $5,000 available to distribute to local organizations. This is after our $500 donation to Earl Besch, $1,000 to Salvation Army, and reserving $2,500 for a 2023-24 grant project, and $2,000 for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). Please share your thoughts/ideas so that we can compile the opportunities and vote as a club. Note that this does not include funds that are expected from the club's foundation which is separate from our Flags for Heroes money.
